Queensland Summer

December marks the start of summer so to make sure your place is ready to tackle a classic Queensland summer here are some steps you should take in October to get ready for the best one yet!

  1. Being aware of Summer weather damage

It is a good idea to check your hoses and faucets for leaks, cracks or any other damage, with the warm weather conditions we face in Queensland you need to make sure your hoses and faucets don’t crack or have been damaged due to the heat.

  1. Being water-efficient

Practising water-saving habits throughout summer is a great way to save money and conserve water! When cleaning your driveway, use a broom instead of a hose. If you’re watering your garden, do it earlier in the morning or late at night when it’s cooler to reduce evaporation. Replacing or repairing any damaged goods is a great way to be water-efficient and reduce waste.

  1. Putting your main water supply on hold

We know Queenslanders have itchy feet and will be travelling throughout the summer, and we don’t blame you! So a small tip is to consider turning off your main water supply, or have a friend keep an eye on it for you. This precaution can help prevent any water damage in the event of a plumbing issue whilst you’re away.

  1. Regularly checking your main water shutoff

In summer accidents happen, whether it’s someone tripping over or putting too much power in a hit from a backyard cricket game, one way of minimising accidents around your property is to know where your main water shutoff valve is and it’s just as important to regularly check there is no damage to it.

  1. Being aware of what’s going in your disposal

With more outdoor gatherings and barbecues over summer, a great tip is be mindful of what goes down your rubbish disposal, try to avoid the disposal of fibrous and starchy foods as these can clog the disposal pipes!

  1. Monitor your water bill

It is a great idea to keep tabs on your water bill over summer, any sudden spikes could indicate you have a hidden leak on your property, or the kids have left the hose on…

By taking on board our suggestions not only are you bound to have a great Queensland summer, but you’re also going to benefit by having a safer, happier home, and even have a bit more cash in your back pocket!
